Getting my goat...

Today we are going on a little drive to a farm in Fort White (small town about 30 miles north of here) to meet the little fellow in the photo below...If all is agreeable he will come home with us and a new adventure will start at Our Country Home....

Hi Kelsie, What a cutie he is! :')
Love his coloring and his little black boots.

I never had much experience with goats until we took care of one for the summer ten years ago. Goater-Goat (I know, original name, lol) was a wethered, dehorned pygmy of some sort, about the size of a cocker spaniel dog and was as cute as the dickens. I thought he'd be happy grazing on our pasture out back, but he cried and carried on so much (I think he missed the herd he had grown up with) that we ended up keeping him up by the house in a small penned enclosure. When they say goats are sure-footed, they're not kidding; whenever he would escape from his pen he was leaping about on the stone walls and munching on hostas and any plants he came across. He also had a taste for foam rubber, apparently, because one day I wasn't watching him close enough and he got out and ate the seat right off our old lawn mower. It was torn in one spot and he literally chewed up all the foam rubber. It didn't affect him one bit! My laundry on the washlines was fair game, too. I used to take him out on walks with me and the neighbors thought it was a hoot. He went home to be with the herd for the winter, we had him for four months. One thing I will say for certain, there were no dull moments when good ol' Goater Goat was here.

He is a cutie! We had a mother goat, for a time, which had twin babies, so the grand children could learn what the country life was all about. We no longer have the goats, but we do have 20 quail, all stages of chickens, two cats and two dogs, at this time.We try to expose the grand children to things they would not otherwise be around.

AdOrAbLe ♥ adventures are about to begin... I have been thinking of getting a goat, just for kicks mostly, they are so funny to watch and have such personality.

Kelsie,
My Dad had goats for us when we were little. Mine was black with a bit of white. He always jumped when I got near. I named him "Cracker Jack" after the caramel popcorn candy!!! Enjoy! Fondly,
Pat
