End of Week 7 - Siding and Windows and Doors OHMY

So much has been going on this week it has been hard to keep up, so I am going to start by showing you how the house looked by the end of the week...Was a little disappointed it does not have doors yet, they have arrived but the rain this morning prevented them from being hung...Or any more siding going up today. The siding is pre-primed btw, so this is not the color the house will be...and though we have been planning it to be all white, we are considering giving it a color...Who knows, I could change my mind a dozen more times between now and them painting...Plus today I am just too tired to think straight.

Now moving on to the work done inside this week.
All the hurricane straps were added and the ceiling tray framed out...This all done by Tuesday so it could pass the engineering inspection. They also added the pull down attic stairs and created a runway and storage platforms in the attic area for David...I do not have good photos to share, as it was hard to photograph from below, will have David take some pics of it later in the week.

The A/C duct work was also done this week, it is very cool looking and could pass as a modern Art Insulation, almost a shame to cover up such impressive workmanship when the ceiling is finally installed lol...Even more impressive is that the entire ducting was done by one man in just a couple of days.

Last but not least, the wall for the breakfast bar was put up, this will allow the electrician to work out where wire in for the lighting that will hang above the bar.

The doors you are seeing in this shot are the backdoor for the utility room and one side of the french doors that will be in the dinning area...Fingers crossed the next time we see these they will be installed.

This coming week promises to be a busy one with Electric and Plumbing rough in's scheduled to start Monday...David will be installing all the TV and Internet Satellite cable and phone lines this week.

Plus I believe he roofers should not be far behind the Elec and Plumbers...

Moving right along....

Wow!!! They been busy since Tuesday afternoon.
Roof is felted, house is wrapped and the windows are in.

Starting next week we should start seeing a parade of various trades. Beginning with the A/C guy I believe.

Making selections....

As you can see by today's picture the roof decking and gables are done...Tomorrow we get inspected and the "nail count" done...Soon as it passes, the roof will be felted and the house wrapped with it's moisture barrier...then I am hoping by the end of the week to see some windows go in.

Also today we had to pick the shingle color and the exterior doors...The back doors were easy, the front door a little harder...but what I am really stuck on is, what color do I want the front door?...Since we are going with a white house with white trim, black roof, I am thinking the front door would be a good place to add a little punch of color, but am I brave enough to go red?....David wants black to match the shingles and the guttering when we put it on...On the upside if we hate the door color it will not take much to paint over it again.

End of Week 5 - Taking The Shape of a House

Monday started off super busy on site, as the guys put up the plywood on the exterior walls and prepped for the arrival of the crane at lunch time.

I would have loved to be on site to see them putting up the trusses but alas it was just me and baby Sara home, and I did not think it was a safe place for her to be, as they crane lifted each truss into place.

Just a couple of short hours later the last truss was lifted into place.

Though he was on site to work,, Leon agreed to be the on the spot photographer again during the truss installation.

By Thursday it was really starting to take shape.
You can see they also cut the windows out of the plywood, added the fascia boards and lots of other stuff I can't think of the words for this early on a Sunday morning.

They had begun laying the decking on the roof at the back of the house, using this super cool (pun hehe) EnergyLock OSB that has a layer of silver stuff on the underside that is supposed to prevent heat from the sun coming into the attic by up to 97%..yay Leon for great green/energy efficient choices.
For more info about EnergyLock click here...

One again we lost time (Tues and Friday) to bad weather...So much for the sunshine state...They were back again Saturday to put more of the decking on the roof and fill in the gables...This is how it looks today...

End of Week 4 - Framework

So here we are at the end of another week. Lots of rain and yucky days slowed things down a little.

Monday Leon came out and marked out the slab for all the walls etc, and Tuesday the trusses got delivered...

You can see in the pic just how over cast and rainy it was.

Wednesday they spent cutting out all the bases from treated wood for the frames to stand on.

Thursday morning we got a break in the weather with gorgeous blue skies. By 10am they had the first wall standing...

and then by that afternoon they had started on the interior walls also....

Friday I was amazed at how much they got done in the morning before having to knock off at lunch time due to rough weather moving in. After the worst of the weather passed I grabbed a couple of minutes to go check out my framed house..

So here we are on Saturday and the framers are back and busy at work making up for those rain days....Hope the rest of the work goes as quick.
