Black & White French Country Inspired Bedroom

I wanted to do something special for Mic's room when we moved in to the new house, knowing it will not be long until she leaves the nest. She wanted black & white, I wanted to do something french country and a little girlie....This is what we have got so far....

I still have to make the throw pillows for the bed and finish sewing the trim onto the lamp. The artwork above the bed, not only matches the theme, but is from her graduating seniors wall, making it extra special.

Can you believe it, I MADE CURTAINS....after yrs of making doll clothes, that was A LOT of fabric to deal with...I think they look really cute, and helped to pull the room together..

Though we still have to work on the frames/artwork for the "unseen" wall to the right, it is look much more like a finished room already....But I am thinking I could have gotten away with a larger chandelier...We will see after I add the bed crown...Maybe then the chandelier will not look so lonely on the ceiling.

New Baby and The Hero...

Well our newest addition made it thru the night...No signs of "peeping" from the other eggs this morning, but it could take up to 3days for all chicks to emerge according to my research...Will just have to keep a close eye on things...if not hatched by Monday the rest of the eggs will need to be removed so Leo can concentrate on raising the chick/s.

This photo is a few months old, but I thought our hero Nardia deserved to have her photo posted again...What a pretty and smart doggy she is.

PS:Hope yall noticed the new banner at the top of the post featuring the ducks Dee and Dum

Down on the Farm moment...

We converted the old carport into a "temporary" chicken yard when we moved into the new house...Mainly because within a week of us moving just 100ft away from the old chicken house something killed one of the chickens...So we wanted them back safely near us and under the watchful eye of Nardia...(I almost typed that with a straight face lol)..Anyway this will be their home until we figure out where we want to build the final one...hmmm they are going to be here for AWHILE hehe.

You have to admit it has a certain rustic charm...and the birds seem to like it ok.

And as you can see by this photo of David and Sara feeding the ducks and chickens, we are actually able to stand in this one :)

Can you believe how much the ducks have grown since March...
Now renamed lovely Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum...These two are so stupid and friendly they are a menace to any who enter the yard lol.

Now to the real reason for my "farm moment"...Around the corner of the chicken "barn" is a small laying box which has been the home of Leo for the last 21days.....

And if you look closely one her eggs is now got a chick hatching out of it...YAY Leo, we are so proud of her.

I am not sure how good all the eggs are and hope she gets at least a couple of chicks for all her efforts...Sadly a few days ago we lost 2 eggs (which yes were fertile) when one of the other hens wanted to use the nesting box and the girls got to fighting....I have since caged off the front of the small box isolating Leo and her eggs. Forcing the other laying hens to finally get the message and use the box inside the chicken barn instead.

Adding a little PS:
Right after I hit post on this entry I heard Bravo our rooster making a ruckus outside...I went to check to make sure the new mummy was ok (which she is)...But found one of the neighbors dogs had escaped again and was chasing the rest of the chickens (and ducks)...I am proud to say that Nardia intervened and jumped on the other dog, pinning her with her chest to the ground and growling at her, needless to say the other dog hightailed it home and Nardia proved to me once again, though she is 11yrs old now, she is still an actively useful part of our family...

Guest Room for 2 lovely ladies....

So while my mum and Aunt were visiting I wanted them to feel like they were truly visiting a southern home....and let me tell you it was decorated on a serious budget since it was only to be like this for their visit...The twin beds were rentals as the actual bed for this room is a full size one, but we did not think they would want to share a bed for their 6 week stay lol...I would have loved to taken the room much farther, but since we were still in the throes of moving into the house ourselves when they were to arrive, time was tight.

As you entered the room, you are greeted by the site of matching twin beds covered in authentic handmade quilts...Both quilts where created by David's grandmother.

On the shelves are photographs of my girls, an antique teddy bear from my own childhood and "Live, Laugh, Love" mini hat boxes...The artwork above this bed caught my eye because of the Quote "Life's most beautiful things are not seen with your eyes but felt with your heart."
Seemed perfect for their visit.

The oil painting above this bed is an original piece my husband owned before we were married...it set the mood for the entire room...The floral wreath was a lucky find on sale and helped to fill the blank wall for this temporary set up....The white wicker chest was a dark brown one we already owned and painted white...It is super handy to store the extra blankets etc for this room.

The 4th wall has the door to the small walk in closet, a dresser with full satellite TV and of course the bedroom door.

All this will get shuffled around and changed to make this into a more multifunctional space now they have gone home to Australia *sad* .... Love you guys xxooxx

Look who came to visit

From the dining room table, we have a perfect view of the bird feeder hanging in the pear tree, just outside the french doors...Eventually we will also bring the bird bath over and place it in the middle of this small group of trees.

Daddy Cardinal brought by his babies for their first breakfast at the bird feeder this morning.

I just wish I had a better camera to take these photos...especially since I am forced to take them thru the glass doors, so as not to disturb the wild life.

Yesterday lunch time one of our "often visitors" stop by for a pear...With 20 something pear trees on the property we do not mind sharing with our fury friends.
