2 Days, 2 Farm Tours

My dear husband has been ever so patient with me the last 2 days...(his days off work)...First on Wed, I drag him to Miracles Happen Ranch to visit Boots our goat and help worm and vaccinate 24 other goats...
Here he is with one of his new friends Lola the donkey...she is so sweet but very loud.

Helping Worm and Vac the goats.

Don't worry I chipped in and helped...I got to try out the super easy goat milking thingie...so much better than by hand :)

Hubby helped too...he held the lil buck Logan's lead so he would stay off of the milking station...And in case you could not guess by looking at him...it was HOT

As I mentioned yesterday, we also purchased our first Doeling while there...Deenie is Hubby's and will be the beginning of his miniature animal breeding empire...Oh and giver of milk.

Here she is from the other side...As you can see the sun was ubber bright and it is hard to photograph white goats that are group together in such conditions...

And lastly @ Miracles Happen Ranch..This is Patches...I was so brave and did not even need a fence between me and him...though declined to grab him and move him away when asked...Hubby came to the rescue and did it instead...(for those reading this that do not know, I am deathly afraid of horses ever since I had one kick me in the face and break my nose at age 13)

So because Wed's heat and humidity was not enough...I made arrangements for us to visit Miss Beth at Double Blessings Farm to check out her lovely sheep...St Croix and Katahdins ( I think...I am tired and my brain is fading quickly)...They are hair sheep though the lambs did look a little wooly until the will molt (rub) it off and look like the older sheep...We were nice enough to include lil Sara on this tour.

Of course we fell in love with the little tri-color gal in the back of this photo..

Then there was the friendly turkey to pet.

and a sweet (so they tell me..see above horse disclaimer) 30yr old mare...Again I am getting tired and forgetting names...Please forgive me Beth

Sara blending in with the young ones.

And even seem to make a new friend of this ewe lamb "Manna"...

We enjoyed our visits so much and today came home with a bunch of young trees to put out in our fields for shade trees (in a couple of yrs) thanks to Miss Beth.

After we got home we had 5 cubic yards of cow poop delivered so we can start prepping the soil for the fall veggie garden...I am so looking forward to a shower and my bed tonight...

Blessings Kelsie

Kelsie,
I understand your fear of certain farm animals! A word of caution: read about sheep before purchasing...they can get very agressive and there are numerous articles published about owners being attacked by their flock. You all look as if you were just part of the "hired hands". Good luck with your venture @ Our Country Home! Refreshing dreams, dear!
Fondly,
Pat

Very interesting. Hardwork in the heat, but it looked like a big time was had by all.

Wow it sure has been hot to be out on the farm! The goats are so cute though!

The milking contraption looked odd...but I keep hearing people say that they prefer hand milking because the machinery just takes a lot of time to get out, it takes time to hook up and needs cleaning. I think I'll be a fan of hand-milking as well.

The photos are so great - you look happy and at home on the farm. I'm jealous!!! I hope to get to our land very soon...

Little Sara looks as if she's a little more intimidated by the goats than by the horse. Great pictures!

Hi Kelsie Sweetie...
What a beautiful share this evening. I loved seeing the farm animals. The goats are my favorite. I guess because they are small. I too am afraid of horses. You can never tell with their temperaments, even though this one looks small.
You look as though you were having a great time.

This is the Miracle Weekend makeover. I am one of the hosting sites. For every comment left, Guideposts magazine will pay a dollar, to the next cancer makeover patient. Please stop by and read the story about 9 year old Charlie, and bless me with a comment. Out goal between the 4 or 5 blogs is 5,000. I know we can do it. I would appreciate it, if you pass the word around to as many friends as possible.

Thank you sweetie for a wonderful post. I love it. Have a glorious weekend. Country hugs from Phoenix, Sherry

Kelsie, wow, you've been busy! And with all the farm animals, I can see Sara (and you) are having a great time. I'm so sorry you had such a horrid experience with being kicked by a horse. I love horses with a passion (but I do not want to own one) and I realize how odd that sounds. I did have a pony as a child, though. I just choose to adore them from afar.

I'm 53 years old and lived with cows and chickens for the first 20 years of my life, so they are all that I 'know'. The goat experience was memorable, but not one I'd want to repeat, lol. They are cute, but when you live in a state where there's snow for months on end, shoveling out to do chores in sub-zero weather isn't fun. Taking care of the hens all winter is enough work for me, I admit it, I'm lazy!

If you ever want to drop me a line, feel free to do so...I'd love to hear from you! krensgarden@gmail.com

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wow Kelsie, you have been busy visiting all the animals... they are all gorgeous..
I don't know anything about horses, but I can tell you sheep are more scared of you than you are of them (except perhaps the rams). They would only charge you if they panicked and you were in the way..
You will soon have a real farm..xx

You guys have sure been busy! Deenie is so cute. I hope the Hubby loves her. Your lil Sara is an Angel. SO sweet. You can tell from the pictures that she was enjoying herself and becoming comfortable with all her new friends. Thanks for sharing. Keep cool in the heat.

Hi Kelsie...I might be a little more afraid of that turkey than the horses :-) Love the pic of your husband and donkey Lola. We had a miniature donkey --- very loud but made you laugh everytime he "talked". We had horses too. I can see where your fear came in if you were kicked in the face. But, I say it's kinda like falling off the horse, where they say you have to "get right back in the saddle". (Did that with broken ribs once) I think you should try to pet that nice mare on the nose...just to say you did it. I look forward to seeing that pic.

This looks like a lot of fun! A very good hubby you have :) I can sure understand your fear of horses- yikes! I used to be a huge horse person, and have had 7, but since having my goats they are the apple of my eye, I am so, so, excited for you and your new addition :) I hope you did get some rest after that!
