Fooling myself...

I wish I could say it was all fun while it lasted but I am sad to say the dream is over because it has been more of a nightmare around here since he arrived...

Tonight when David gets home from work we are returning Boots to his bottle mum...after day 2 of my child showing no control over her actions and proving she can not listen when spoken to, I have come to the conclusion I can't deal with her and the needs of a young goat whom already has managed to escape the yard twice and now is showing signs of getting diarrhea.

Obviously this is not the right season.

You know the old saying, "Live and Learn." Some days are just like this...I bet the work involved was not fun. It was like you had twins!

So true Lana and boy have I learnt this one...I hate to say it but I just don't have my child trained well enough to deal with a Kid in the house too....So time to pull back, evaluate and replan.

Oh dear! Sorry for your trouble. I had this same experience with a puppy we got when my oldest son was 2. We thought it would be just the thing... NOPE! After an afternoon of the crazy puppy jumping on him and him screaming and hiding from it and listening to barking all night from the bathroom, you know what I did the next morning!:) I don't think we even had her 24 hours! When he was 10 we tried again and things went much better.

Thnx for that Sweet, it can be a little hard to admit we goofed, but the welfare of the animal must come before my pride...I am finding it a little hard to take since he symbolized the next step in our "farm" plans...I think where we went wrong was getting such a young animal...I think some tried and true older goats that do not require so much hands on attention and can just be released into the pasture would be a better plan of action.

Kelsie,
Hold your head high and say...it just wasn't time! Keep life in proper prospective. Try again when the time is right...you'll know when!
Fondly,
Pat

Thank you Pat...It feels like a HUGE step backwards but sometimes I guess that is where we are supposed to be.

I'm sorry the little buckling didn't work out for you. I believe you're right about a couple of older goats in the field might be a better way to start. And of course it's always important to follow through on the promises as well as the threats we make to our children.
