These last couple of weeks have been rough on the birds...Not only did we loose Spunky the Cockatiel to some unknown predator but our flock of chickens and ducks is now reduced to just 2 hens and Bravo the rooster....That's right both Tweedle ducks are now no longer and our hens Coffee and Cream went within just days of each other...
The latest victim last night was poor little Coffee, she had spent the last couple of days cowering in the chicken house as something tried to snatch her on Friday, when she just came out a little shaken and a few feathers missing...Well last night our predator found a way over the 6 foot chicken wire, snatched Coffee and used the hay bail in the corner to get back out again...This all happened at about 10.30pm when hubby heard a ruckus from Bravo, but by the time we got outside it was over and Coffee was simply GONE.
This afternoon I fixed the breach in security and borrowed a motion camera from our neighbors...So perhaps tomorrow will tell exactly what came over the fence last night..
The same neighbors we borrowed the camera from, have had to start locking up their turkeys again because a bobcat was taking them...They found defined prints all the way around the turkey enclosure and scratch marks where it had tried to get in...I guess it gave up and came to my house for chicken instead...They already have a trap out but so far it has just been stealing the bait...If I confirm a bobcat for us, we have another neighbor we can also borrow traps from...between us hopefully we can catch the bugger.

Hubby has had this problem before and we still do not know what it was. He locks his chicks up at night in a smaller pen with their hen house in there. The hen house has a roof, and there is also wire over the top of this area. I hate to see any little animal get hurt, or worse...
Hope you're able to catch the problem soon. ~Alana~
