Where the wild things are...

The other evening I was out taking a walk with lil Sara along the road in front of our property...Going no where special just enjoying the cool breeze that could be a promise or could be a tease that fall is on it's way...As we reached the northern driveway that leads to the family cemetery (yes we really do have one of our own)...I was delighted to see some passion flowers that had not yet closed for the night...These vines grow under the power lines in the old fence line amongst all the bramble so we know they are courtesy of the birds.

So as fast as a 3yr old wearing flip-flops on the wrong feet can, we ran back to the house for my "big camera" (Nikon 990)..Due to the fading light as the sun was trying to sink behind the trees, I switch my menu settings, light meter to "cloudy"..my focus to "Spot" and then hit the macro setting on the quick buttons and turned off the flash....These were the results.

I included a couple of other sweet wild flowers that were growing close by in the ditch..

Can anyone tell me what kinda caterpillar this is?
And please don't say Orange Spiked Punk like someone I will not mention already has lol.

Not sure if I am brave enough to try eating the fruit as they do not seem to change color, just fall from the vine large and green and then rot into the ground...I would however like to transplant some along my back garden fence because they are truly gorgeous flowers.

Please stop by and enter my give away...

Celebrating the 4th

Last night our church held a Fish Fry and Fireworks to celebrate the birthday of this great nation...Of course there was fun for the kids to be had...
Lil Sara got to enjoy the bouncy house early in the evening...Later there was a line and a wait...and though she did get to go on again, this was the best photo op with no other bouncers in the way.

After all that bouncy and running around in the playground a nice slushy was needed to quench her thirst...You can see the older kids playing baseball in the background...

We also enjoyed a slice of fresh watermelon provided by the same neighbor that grows melons at the back of our place...Me and Hubby enjoyed the boiled peanuts...not to salty not to bland...they were just right...

Before dinner they showed a brief video telling the history of the Star Spangled Banner...I could not find the exact video on youtube to share, but it was very moving and powerful knowing the sacrifices made to keep the flag flying on the rampart that night at Fort McHenry..

Later inside was served fried Catfish and Tilapia, chicken tenders for those non-fish loving folk, grits, baked beans, slaw, hush puppies and fries....Deserts were provided by the ladies of the church and was a smorgasbord of deliciousness.
Of course afterwards a fireworks display, but alas the noise was more than a 3yr old can take so we headed home....As we got out the car we could still hear them in the distance 5miles away.

It was a wonderful evening of friends, fellowship and a celebration of Freedom.

I hope by the next 4th of July I would have had a chance (and money) to take the required tests and will be a Citizen of the USA not just being a resident...

Buckle Up...More doll art...

This weekend got a little crazy around here...On top of my tooth being pulled Wednesday afternoon, hubby got sick Thursday, then lil Sara got sick too...Sick enough for us to cancel her birthday party and spend 5hrs in the ER Saturday night trying to get her fever down...it has been a challenge all day to keep it somewhat under control still...

So needless to say nothing to very little has happened around the house...So instead I am sharing with you the doll fashion I completed at the beginning of the week...It is called

Buckle-up

Black Swallowtail Butterfly

We awoke this morning to find our butterfly had emerged from the Chrysalis and drying its wings...

I gently moved the entire jar, dill branch and butterfly to the breakfast bar to get a better photo of those beautiful wings..

Lil Sara thought it was very pretty but did not like it when it crawled up her arm...I tried to take a photo of it on her but it was not good..

Just a couple of hours after we got up and it was ready to fly away...I opened the french doors and bid our butterfly fair-de-well...I am sure we will see him again around the garden with all the other butterflies..

It was such a delight to happen upon him as a big fat caterpillar and amazing to find him again the next day tucked away in his Chrysalis...and here we are just 10 short days later and the wonders of nature are revealed before our eyes...

Wash Day 2 - Sun Flare Photography

Over at Tracy's Trinkets and Treasures she has set us another photography challenged, capturing sun flares thru our camera lens...Since there really nothing more old time country relaxing as watching sheets blowing in the breeze as the sun shines bright, I used this was my subject matter...

I hope you enjoy watching my sheets dry as much as I did.

Pillow cases at high noon...

More photos taken at high noon...I love the feel of this mosaic in sepia tones...

The sun is getting low in the sky, time to get the evening chores finished...

The bird house with the melon field in the background as the sun starts to dip behind the trees..

Another sun sets on Our Country Home...

Down on Jr's Farm...

I wanted to share with you some photographs of an amazing veggie garden...Alas my camera batteries died so I was only able to grab a couple of shots...but you still get the idea at how large and super healthy this garden is...

It belongs to our neighbor down the road and one of lil Sara's favorite ppl...Mr Jr...Every spring and fall we are blessed by this garden...and this year Mr Jr and his son have gone all out and planted the biggest garden they have had in quite a few years...

The top image was taken from mid point in the garden facing east...
They always plant enough to feed 3 house holds (Jr's, his son's and his daughter's) as well as to give away to friends and neighbors (like us)

Has it really been a year already?

Next week marks one year since we got our Certificate of Occupancy for the house...
This is a photo taken from the top of the driveway...Still have lots of clearing of the rubbish bushes that flank the drive and hide the gorgeous dogwoods at the moment..

We still need grass but the garden beds is coming along nicely..

The view from the opposite side of the yard...From here it almost looks like we do have lawn, but really it is all just weeds lol...

Laundry Room Visitor

With the warmer weather, these little guys (and gals I guess) are everywhere...
Found this fellow hanging out on my laundry basket when I went out to start another load of wash...He was just as curious about me and my camera as I was about him...

After taking his photo I released him outside behind the trash cans so the cats could not find him.

Banana Bread Tea Party....

So if you remember last week when Lil Sara heard her Grandparents were coming to visit us, she insisted we bake them a cake...I pulled a fast one and let her make banana bread, which to a 2 yr old is the same as cake, so no harm no "chicken"...Well today I am sharing some of the snap shots I took during the tea party Lil Sara hosted so we could consume her delicious baked goods.

Firstly lets cover the dishes we used...The trusty old "Everyday Ware" white pieces were pulled for this occasion...mainly because we are dealing with a 2yr old and the white pieces are the easiest replaced..."just in case"...We added the white with purple flower sugar and milk jug set (target clearance find) to the table as well...when taking tea with Sara 2 milk jugs are required...one for her and one for everyone else to share...We served Banana Bread of course, but also fresh strawberries and Graham Crackers...The new blue and white 2 tiered server was a lucky find at the flea market for $1...

Here is a our lovely little hostess sipping at her first cup of milk, with 2 sugars thank you very much..Nama had peppermint tea, myself English breakfast as always and Poppa had Ginger Ale...Our other guests chose just to watch the festivities since they infact are really only toys *wink*

Sara and Nama

Sara and Poppa

Uh Oh! Our little hostess decided she wanted a second cup and boy did that cup fill to the top FAST...Oh No...What to do, What to do...there is no WAY that cup is getting to her mouth without making a huge mess of spilled milk...

So to avoid tears, we broke with tradition and she drank her second cup with a straw :)

Spring time bee on a white pansy...

This if for all of you in the frozen north...

I thought you might like to see a little white that was not snow related....This little guy was a scout, it did not take long after seeing him to hear buzzing coming from the pear tree in the backyard which opened its blooms yesterday...

A cowgirl and wet chicken...

Lil Sara going for a ride on her horse "HeeHaw" before church Sunday morning..

Yes, she wore the hat and boots to church...Why?

Because sometimes we just have to pick our battles lol...

So that was the Cowgirl portion of the post, what about the wet chicken??

And no, it is not some mouthwatering southern recipe...

It is my poor chickens, who are so sick of being cooped up because of the rain,
they all ventured out into the icky weather today and how pitiful do they look...

I am hoping tomorrows forecast of sunshine is accurate, this Floridian NEEDS her some sunshine.

Sharing today at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.
