Tea Quote....

It's my birthday teaparty...

It is hard to believe but lil Sara turned 4 on Saturday...So what is a mom to do??

Force her to do a photoshoot for me of course mahahaha.

I did however let her use my "PINK CUPS" (Red Transferware)...So she thought she was all that and a bag of chips :)

I am loving how the photos came out...Have a few more to edit but could not wait any longer to share.

Notice her and dolly Alex have matching dresses and hairpieces...Yup I spent ever evening at the sewing machine this past week lol.

Serendipity Tea...

For the longest time I have been wanted to add a pretty, delicate, with a touch of pink tea-cup to my small collection...But alas this humble farm girl can just not justify paying $25 for a tea-cup...Pink or otherwise...

How fortunate for me that in order to avoid an "unhappy accident" we had a very "happy accident" indeed...

Lil Sara, as 3yr olds are apt'd to do, requested a potty break while we were in a store with no bathroom...Fortunately right next door is one of our (my) favorite thrift stores...My eldest daughter was a volunteer there for a short time also....

So we leave daddy to choose his own cell phone and we pop next door to use the facilities...

Once business was taken care of, we of course must check the kitchenware section for any treasures that might have been donated...this is a RULE...and can not be broken...

Oh rapture...Oh joy...Hear the heavenly music ring...3 little delicate tea-cups and matching saucers, with just a tiny touch of pink on the flowers sat waiting for me...What a truly serendipitous moment...

My heart was just pounding as I reached out to turn over the delicate corset shaped cup and saucer to check the price...I just knew I would be walking out empty handed, because there is NO WAY, I can afford them...Oh! But this could not be...$1 each...yup...I walked out of there with all 3 tea-cups and matching saucers for a mere $3.21...

The other thing I found under the saucer was a red and gold sticker that says, Metasco - Japan.

Blessings Kelsie

PS: I think I had a little too much fun taking photos of this cups....Must be love

Where the tea things are....

It has been along time since I had a tea inspired post and joined all the lovely tea parties in blog land...I still have not had time for a quiet cup of tea but thought I would show you where I keep my small tea things collection and family treasures...
The china cabinet was gifted to my by my MIL and one day I will decide what color I want to paint it (it will receive new hardware at that point)

On the top shelve I display part of my Homer Laughlin set of dishes...And the lovely china cats that belonged to my Grandmother whom passed when I was 11yrs old...My Grandfather knowing how much I love her cat collection saved these and presented them to me for my 21st Birthday, he inscribed the bottom of the cats from both himself and my grandmother...

Middle shelf starting on the left...
My Disney's Alice in Wonderland Teapot...The set of 3 orphaned teacups I found at a local Antiques mall and another HL plate...I have used my silver platters at the back of this shelf to create some reflected light within the cabinet.

How gorgeous is this rabbit, hubby found him at yet another local antiques mall (we have lots of AM's around here)...he has no markings underneath...He sits on a riser of old books...the bottom 3 books are from yet another antique shop, but the top one is a English/Dutch translation of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, printed in 1931 and belonged to my father as a little boy attending school in Holland...My sugar tongs because they are pretty.... The white bell marked Joy that was a gift from my eldest daughter...Another silver tray to brighten the background.

On the right side of the middle shelf is "Sara's Teaset"...It had belonged to her daddy's Granny and has been entrusted to my care until Sara is old enough to care for it herself....The Tiara was worn by my eldest daughter to her Prom...and again the silver tray bringing in some much needed light.

The bottom shelf right now just contains random pieces I have not yet worked out where to keep or display them...Yellow Jug from Dollar General...Flea-market cake tier, target sugar bowl and creamer jug....

The fish platter was my newest find...I took in some baby clothes to the consignment store and there it was sitting waiting for me...I already had a store credit, so walked out with the fish for no money out of my pocket...The Target bowl and jug again...White Corelle Teapot from Lowes Foods...Martha Steward sugar bowl and milk jug also from target...to the right of these is a candy dish and a candle holder...Like I said this shelf needs some thought, but not until we (I) decided on what color to paint the cabinet it's self.

Paper, Teapot and Give away....

Today I have about a thousand things I SHOULD be doing...but instead I am experimenting with making my own Recycled Paper...I promise to provide yall with a how-to tutorial just as soon as I am confident that my theory can work in practice...this could also mean a give-away could be just around the corner....

And simply because every post should have a photo and today is Teacup Tuesday in blog land I am sharing a photo from the archives...This teapot belonged to Hubby's Granny and is now in my care until Lil Sara is old enough...Is it not the cutest little teapot?

Banana Bread Tea Party....

So if you remember last week when Lil Sara heard her Grandparents were coming to visit us, she insisted we bake them a cake...I pulled a fast one and let her make banana bread, which to a 2 yr old is the same as cake, so no harm no "chicken"...Well today I am sharing some of the snap shots I took during the tea party Lil Sara hosted so we could consume her delicious baked goods.

Firstly lets cover the dishes we used...The trusty old "Everyday Ware" white pieces were pulled for this occasion...mainly because we are dealing with a 2yr old and the white pieces are the easiest replaced..."just in case"...We added the white with purple flower sugar and milk jug set (target clearance find) to the table as well...when taking tea with Sara 2 milk jugs are required...one for her and one for everyone else to share...We served Banana Bread of course, but also fresh strawberries and Graham Crackers...The new blue and white 2 tiered server was a lucky find at the flea market for $1...

Here is a our lovely little hostess sipping at her first cup of milk, with 2 sugars thank you very much..Nama had peppermint tea, myself English breakfast as always and Poppa had Ginger Ale...Our other guests chose just to watch the festivities since they infact are really only toys *wink*

Sara and Nama

Sara and Poppa

Uh Oh! Our little hostess decided she wanted a second cup and boy did that cup fill to the top FAST...Oh No...What to do, What to do...there is no WAY that cup is getting to her mouth without making a huge mess of spilled milk...

So to avoid tears, we broke with tradition and she drank her second cup with a straw :)

Lil Sara Bakes her first CAKE....

When lil Sara heard Nama and Poppa were coming to visit she wanted to bake a cake...Last time they came was Poppa's bday and of course we had cake....Being two, she has put Poppa and Cake together and come up with four...What a clever girl she is.

Last week I came across a recipe for Banana Bread that looked super easy to make, over at Beatrice Banks Blog, Click Here to see her post...Just don't tell lil Sara it is Banana Bread, because she will still insist it is CAKE!!

These are all the utensils you need for mashing bananas...Actually you probably need more but mum is a stick in the mud and said I had enough...

I became quite the expert banana peeler too...

Tear and TOSS goes the peel....

Notice my cute little apron mummy got me from the Quilt Museum during her last visit...It has Sweeps (Sheep) on it..Mummy got a cute pink flowery one for her self but was sad because she really wanted a Sweep one too....

Little by little I spoon the mashed banana in to the egg and sugar mix...

See how yellow it is...Mummy says that is because our chickens are free range and make super healthy eggs...

Because I am super clever I mix in the flour with 2 spoons....

While we wait for the cake to cook in the oven we clean up our mess...
or make a bigger mess playing at the sink...

Mmmmmmmm looks so good...Now were is that Nama and Poppa at??

At the end of a rainy day...

Nothing beats a hot cup of tea in your favorite chair...

That is unless you throw in a couple of great magazines...

yes that is a fall issue I am a little behind in my reading

Then if you add a slice of banana creme cake with a little whipped on the side...
Mmmmmm, just perfect...*happy sigh*

I love these cute little Beatrix Potter fork and spoon set my MIL gifted to lil Sara...They are just the right size for mummy to borrow for a tea time :)..The blue napkin also courtesy of my MIL...I love how the color complements my Homer Laughlin cup and dishes..

All served on one of my favorite thrift store finds...My $7 wooden TV tray that will one day become a white shabby TV tray...

And I can't forget my favorite snugly blanket...

So please pull up a comfy chair and join me, we can chit-chat about the weather and such things...

Please stop by and visit my other blog Lost Homes of Levy Co ...

Tea, Quilts and Antiques...

A couple of weeks ago I shared photos from a Mother Daughter Brunch with my eldest daughter...We had visited the Suwannee Rose Cafe, which is located in the same old Coke Factory building as the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe, and there is even more quilting stuff and antiques in the old Ice House building behind it, including the Antique Sewing Machines and Pink Antiques I shared in other previous post...Today I wanted to share the last of the photos from this visit.

This lovely egg plate was my daughters favorite antique piece, but alas it was just a little out of my price range that day...Maybe it will still be there on our next visit...

My gorgeous daughter standing in front of some of the bolts of fabric...She is holding our "birdie bag"...Our lunch was garnished with fresh citrus and since I am allergic I brought it home to hang on my bird feeder because they love them some citrus..

More bolts of fabric...They boast over 5,000 bolts and a library of 400 quilting books...Impressive huh...They also offer a number of different classes...Maybe one day I will have time to take a couple..

How fun sheet music fabric...I know, but where are the teacups?

Next door in the Ice House building

Sadly I did not get close ups of the each cup because I was running out of room on my camera...

They had the complete set of these...or at least to me it looked like a complete set...

More tea cups..

The pink one was my favorite of course, but out of my price range also...

I really loved this display they had set up with the old cans and the geese, if it was not for the price tickets showing it could be a dresser at grandma's house...

Hope yall have a wonderful week...Blessings Kelsie

Afternoon Tea Party...

Today started with a morning play date for lil Sara...She had so much fun...They played with a train set and dressed up as pirates and spent lots of time outside on the slide and swings and climbing the tree house...So of course when it was time to leave there was bound to be tears...and this mummy hates tears...So I did what every soft hearted mummy would do...I bribed her.

I told lil Sara if she was good and did not cry as we got in the car, when we got home we would have a tea party...with MUMMY'S TEA SET...the words were barely out of my mouth and she was saying her thank you's and goodbyes...

Alas she was so tired she fell asleep in the car on the way home...But the second her eyes opened after the nap she was asking for the promised tea party to begin...Let this be a warning to all you mummies...if you are going to bribe your child, be ready to follow thru with the promised treat lol.

Look at that excited little face...She is so proud to be using the big tea set...Please note the candle sticks on the table, she insisted as I was getting the tea stuff out of the china cabinet we use the candles also.

On the menu today we have:
Teddy Bear Cookies
Fruit Flavored Dora the Explorer Treats
Apple Slices
Honey Grahams
1% Milk

Sara very carefully poured her own milk...

As you can see we are using my all white pieces, the teacup and saucer are Gibson "Everyday" and came from Walmart, the creamer jug (matching sugar bowl still in cabinet) Martha Stewart from Target..Tea Pot Corelle from Lowes Foods NC many moons ago...The 2 tiered server is Kmart brand and was from their Easter collection I believe.

No surprise the Dora Treats were the first to go lol...

Next to go was the Teddy Bears...
It tickled me how with both treats she very carefully placed them around her cup...

I slipped in a couple of chicken nuggets since she slept thru lunch...

We are so glad you could join us again today for another "on the spot" tea party...

Blessings Kelsie
