Security Breach...*bob cat update images*

Went out to release the chickens after hitting publish on the previous post and found there is a new breach in the outer fence...I am so glad we close the actual chicken house door at night because something (bobcat) scratched a big hole in front of the door trying to get in ...Wouldn't you know I did not set up the camera last night because I was not able to get outside because of toddler...(teen closes the chickens in)...tonight I am going to do both camera and borrowed traps...This is getting personal.

Where it dug under the corner of the fence next to the gate to get into the pen...

You can see where it was digging along the front of the chicken house once it got inside the pen. Fortunately for our chickens the house has a wooden floor so it can not dig up into them...

Defined prints as it left through the whole in which it entered...

Notice the lack of claws above the toes, this indicates feline and not k9.

More Country Visitors and *Bobcat update*

I thought I would share some of my favorite neighbors with you today....

I caught this image with the motion camera in the chicken pen, so far no Bobcat pix, but I thought this little fellow deserved a mention...He and the Cardinals love sharing the chicken feed this time of year...Quick update on our Bobcat, no movement from it here, but signs he has been back at the neighbors scratching at the turkey house again...Still no luck with the traps.

I came home yesterday from town and this rather large Armadillo was foraging in the northern side yard, he took off running as I tried to approach...He did return not long after and I stood really still waiting for him to get close enough for a really good photo, but alas wouldn't you know it, my lazy old 11yr old dog decided she does still knows how to run and chased him back into the woods...I have no doubt he will be back though....With the back fields plowed we are going to see a lot of visitors in this yard for the growing season..

This was taken back in June, but this girl is one of my favorite residence on our property, she is a Gopher Turtle (learn more about Gopher Turtles by clicking here) and has a series of burrows in the same north side yard the Armadillo was foraging in...We purposely do not use this area much as to not disturb her. She and her kind are on the Threatened Species list..We also make a point of leaving the wild black berries growing near her burrows as they are her natural source of food...There is at least one other Gopher Turtle on the property, maybe two...But she is our most active and we can watch her through the gap in the tree line from our front porch during the summer months when she is most active.

Peeking out the window....

This is the view through the window about 5 minutes ago (well technique the french doors)... We started watching the birds on the feeder but then noticed the tractor in the back ground...

This week they started breaking the ground behind the house to get ready for planting watermelons....They will turn the dirt a few more times before they start laying the plastic rows and irrigation...The rows directly behind the fence will not get planted with watermelons, but will serve as my veggie garden this year...I need to start thinking about what I will be planting there, how much and when I need to get it into the ground...

By the time they are done planting it will be a rough total of 74 acres of watermelons, combining our land and the land adjacent....minus of course what I use for my veggies.

A Chorus of Sewing Machines

Yesterday while out and about with eldest daughter, I came across all these lovely old Sewing Machines in the antique store next to the Quilt Shoppe which I will share pics of at a later time...

The Quilt Shoppe is located in the old Coca Cola factory building on main street Trenton, next to the old railway depot, and then behind the factory is the "Ice House" building, which now houses antiques, handmade confections, a beauty parlor, a long arm quilting machine that is amazing to watch in action and a banquet room...

But back to the sewing machines...Each sewing machine is for sale and I am told are in working order...Most were Singers (hence the Chorus pun) but other brands were represented...

You just have to love the shape of these old machines...

I love the drop sides on this ones table...

Don't let the fact it is sitting on a peddle base fool you...

It is actually the first electric sewing machine from 1917...
Can you imagine how rich the original owner must have been to buy this back then...

More oldies on the kitchen table...what a fun sewing circle this could be...

It was harder to photograph these little ones in the case, though I had turned off my flash, nothing I could do about the shop's lighting..

Lastly 3 "toy" machines...2 complete with original boxes....

It was fun to see so many old machines in one place, I hope you enjoyed seeing them also.
